One thing I’m battling with is the trying to search for the words and having a concise flow. I work in a lab and never need to do presentations. I just do it to practice my self-confidence, self-growth and to be an effective communicator. I totally recommend this for anyone who needs to practice public speaking. Look at you audience and if you see that some of them are going to sleep, change the pace or dynamics of your voice or if you can ask for someones opinion on something.(just avoid the ones that already sleeps :-) ).Practice out loud (this was very important for me).It makes you look stupid while reading from the screen. By all means avoid "wall of text" slides.If it helps, choose one of the well known methods like TTT or KISS or something like that, but personally I find it repulsive :-).There's no point trying to explain to them something that can't be comprehended by newbies. if the audience doesn't know anything about your topic and the topic may be too complex for them, you'll bore them to death and nobody will listen to you instead try to use analogies with some general topics mine is car industry). While making the concept of presentation find out what kind of profile the listeners are and adopt your presentation to them (e.g.The fact that you are the one presenting probably makes you the person that knows the most about the topic in the room!!
